about

February 25, 2014 - Maykop - Festival of Circassian music, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the the Adyghe (Circassian) folk virtuoso musician Aslanbech Chich. This is one of the biggest events of Circassian culture over the last few years that is not connected to popular music. Name of Aslanbech attracted folk musicians from all major Russian regions where the Adyghes live: Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Krasnodar region and obviously Adygea.
However, the reason of the recording and publishing of this album was not a concert, held in Maikop Philharmonic but Djegu (The Game), that followed the official part.
It was not a concert and not a ritual, not in the sense these terms are used lately. Unity of people gathered in a circle to sing, reflect, talk and dance. This Djegu simultaneously became good friends meeting, the sacred action and still nothing of the aforementioned.
It is worth mentioning that Djegu was never supposed to be recorded. The process was easy and harmonious, and we tried to capture it, while not interfering in the situation and following the flow. This influences the recording quality - you can hear some outside noise or even errors of the performers.
But our goal is to describe life, and not the sterile ideal.
