Disclaimer: We are releasing this album to show our support for our friends and some of the key figures behind Jrpjej's distinctive sound - Diana Kulova and Alan Sheudzhen. With this release, we want to share in their joy and celebrate the years of collaboration, the countless miles traveled, and the heaps of inappropriate humor (coming from us). Back in 2021, when the coronavirus pandemic lseemed like the worst nightmare, casting a shadow over life, Ored Recordings, alongside Jrpjej and Zaur Nagoev, embarked on their inaugural international tour to the Netherlands.

Today, we look back on that period as one of the brightest chapters in the label's and the band's history - a time of voyages, strolls, responsive audience, and the genuine delight of provincial Circassians who ventured on an actual European tour.

Yet, reminiscing about all the meticulous groundwork with documents and logistics, it wasn't the simplest of journeys.

Handling the tour arrangements was the responsibility of the Dutch agency Yugofuturism, which typically brought an array of post-punk and industrial acts from Eastern Europe to their homeland. Though Koen, the agency's sole staffer, executed everything precisely and professionally, there remained uncertainty - would the concerts be canceled due to the pandemic's grip? And even if the authorities permitted the events, would we gain entry into the country?

Clarity was elusive, rendering rehearsals and preparations a challenge. What saw us through was Jrpjej's vigorous performances and dedicated material crafting leading up to 2021. The sound, the ambiance, and the level of cohesion weren't contingent on how we felt or how fatigued we were.

Diana, Alan, and Timur gradually realized that their endeavors were yielding something beautiful and intriguing; ideas were materializing, and dreams of carving out a steady livelihood through music were taking on a more tangible form.

Joining us at that juncture was Zaur Nagoev, a rock luminary in the realm of contemporary traditional Circassian music. Zaur's stature wasn't bestowed upon him lightly - he commanded the stage impressively, sang with formidable power, and consistently held the audience captive with his charisma. However, Zaur wasn't the most predictable individual - a few days prior to a concert, he could suddenly become unresponsive. Be it due to capriciousness, inadvertence, or a fantastic alignment of circumstances beyond anyone's control.

But this time around, he proved to be one of the most engaged and responsible members of the ensemble - dedicating extensive hours to rehearsal and expanding the repertoire.
Our journey to the Netherlands was undertaken in splendid form.

The tour, which kicked off with the Utrecht festival Le Guess Who?, took us through The Hague, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. Somewhere amidst these notable cities, in our schedule, lay a spot called Voorhout and the local Katzwijm studio.
Katzwijm felt like a location straight out of movies or music-centric novels, where the protagonist packs enough sustenance and libations and retreats to a remote hideaway to craft an album.

The studio catered to all our needs - sleep, shower, food, and, of course, top-notch equipment. With just two incomplete days for recording, the pace was frenetic. Yet, stress and anxiety were absent.

The studio team, especially the sound engineer Daan, empowered Jrpjej not just to unwind but also to explore soundscapes experimentally.

Ordinarily, during recording sessions, Timur Kodzoko would juggle playing music, conceptualizing the recording format, and monitoring audio quality. Here, he could assume the role of a mere musician. Daan himself introduced a variety of formats and played around with techniques.

Before this, Katzwijm had collaborated with a slew of artists of varying degrees of renown and spanning diverse genres - from the iconic art-punks The Ex to the star of fashion festivals King Ayosba and even the modish Anatolian rockers Altin Gun.

Here, no explanations were required; Daan intuitively understood our intentions and the recording process. In Moscow or Nalchik, these explanations consumed considerable effort, which ultimately prompted us to cease working with studios. Collaborating here was effortless, and this facilitated the recording of a broad spectrum of material.

The repertoire encompassed songs from prior albums, ballads that Zaur had recognized from his time with Zhyu, snippets of Anatolian Circassian music, and instrumental improvisations influenced by Syrian Adygs.

Such an opportune alignment, where musicians at their zenith partner with a skilled sound engineer, might not be replicated, hence our decision to capture everything Diana, Alan, Timur, and Zaur could create together.

In many respects, this formation (the trio plus the bonus inclusion of Nagoev) is regarded as quintessential Jrpjej. With the male voices on the debut Qorror, we were in search of our signature style. With the new lineup, featuring the youthful Astemir Ashiboko, Gupsa Pashtova, and Kamilla Koshey, we're striving to unlock the substantial potential we discern in these emerging musicians. Over time, working with Diana and Alan evolved from a search-and-experiment phase, though there was room for sonic exploration, into a stage of refining ideas to fruition. Consequently, sonically and conceptually, all recordings and performances with them constituted holistic projects and artistic statements.

Today, we find ourselves dispersed across different countries, rendering collaborative efforts unfeasible. Nonetheless, this release captures the creative zenith of Jrpjej during that time.

В 2021 году, когда пандемия короновируса казалась нам главным кошмаром, омрачающим жизнь, Ored Recordings вместе с Jrpjej и Зауром Нагоевым отправились в первое иностранное турне по Нидерландам.
Сегодня мы вспоминаем этот период как один из самых светлых в истории лейбла и группы - путешествия, прогулки, отзывчивая аудитория и обычная понятная радость провинциальных черкесов, которые выехали в настоящий тур по европейской стране.

Но если вспомнить всю подготовительную работу с документами и логистикой, то это было не самое простое путешествие.
Организацией гастролей занималось нидерландское агенство Yugofuturism, которое обычно привозило домой разный пост-панк и индастриал из Восточной Европы. И хоть Кун, единственный работник конторы, делал все четко и профессионально, никакой ясности не было - не отменят ли из-за ковида все концерты. А если организаторам все и разрешат, то не факт, что нас пустят в страну.
Не было никакой ясности, поэтому репетировать и готовиться было сложно. Нас спасало то, что к 21 году Jrpjej так активно выступали и работали над материалом, что звучание, атмосфера и уровень сыгранности не зависел от того, как мы все себя чувствовали и насколько устали.
Дайана, Алан и Тимур на практике поняли, что мы делаем что-то красивое и интересное; идеи начинают воплощаться, а мечты о постоянном заработке через музыку начинают больше походить на конкретный план.

К нам тогда присоединился и Заур Нагоев - рок-звезда новой традиционной музыки среди черкесов. Такой статус Зауру мы дали не просто так - он отлично выглядел на сцене, мощно пел и всегда увлекал публику харизмой. При этом Нагоев не самый предсказуемый человек - за несколько дней до концерта он мог перестать выходить на связь. По прихоти, нерасторопности или фантастическому стечению обстоятельств, на которые никто не мог повлиять.

Но в этот раз он был один из самых активных и ответственных музыкантов состава - много репетировал и расширял репертуар. В Нидерланды мы ехали в отличной форме.

Тур, который начинался с Утрехтского фестиваля Le Guess Who?, шел через Гаагу, Роттердам и Амстердам. Где-то посреди этих больших и известных городов в нашем графике было местечко Voorhout и местная студия Katzwijm.

Katzwijm - будто место из фильмов или книжек про музыку, где герой берет с собой достаточно еды и алкоголя и уединяется в какой-нибудь глуши, чтобы записать альбом.
В студии было все - от ночлега и душа до еды и, конечно, оборудования. На запись у нас было только два неполных дня, поэтому записывалось все в очень быстром режиме. Но никаких нервов и стресса не было.

Тут команда студии и особенно звукорежиссер Даан позволил Jrpjej не просто расслабиться, но и поэкспериментировать со звуком.

Если обычно Тимуру Кодзоко во время рекорд-сессий приходится и играть музыку и придумывать формат записи, и следить за звуком, то тут он мог побыть просто музыкантом. Даан сам предлагал разные форматы и экспериментировал с техникой.

До этого Katzwjim работали с кучей артистов разной степени известности и разных жанров - культовые арт-панки The Ex, звезда модных фестивалей King Ayosba и даже модные анатолийские рокеры Altin Gun.

Нам не нужно было объяснять Даану, что мы хотим и как делать совсем не надо. В Москве или Нальчике на эти объяснения уходило много сил, поэтому мы в итоге перестали работать со студиями.

Здесь же было легко работать, поэтому мы записали самый разный материал.
Тут есть песни с прошлых альбомов, баллады, которые Заур узнал еще в составе Жъыу, что-то из музыки анатолийских черкесов и инструментальные наигрыши сирийских адыгов.

Второго такой идеальной ситуации, когда музыканты в лучшей форме играют с профессиональным звукорежиссером, могло и не случиться, поэтому мы решили записать вообще все, что могут выдать вместе Дайана, Алан, Тимур и Заур.
Во многом этот состав (трио и бонус в лице Нагоева) мы считаем классическим для Jrpjej. На дебютном Qorror с мужскими голосами мы искали свой стиль, с новым составом, куда входят совсем юнные Астемир Ашибоко, Гупса Паштова и Камилла Кошей мы пытаемся раскрыть большой потенциал, который видим в молодых музыкантах. С Дайаной и Аланом со временем получилось не искать и просто пробовать - хотя и пространство для экспериментов с ними было -, а доводить идеи до конца. Поэтому в плане звука и идеи все записи и выступления с ними были цельными проектами и высказываниями.

Сегодня нас всех разбросало по разным странам и мы не можем работать вместе. Но этот релиз зафиксировал творческий пик того Jrpjej.

Дальше будет лучше.
